Assessment Portfolio and Analysis Essay Example for Free
Assessment Portfolio and Analysis Essay The purpose of assessment. b.Your plan for including assessment when working with children. c.How you can use assessment to document childrenââ¬â¢s work. d.How you will use childrenââ¬â¢s interests and ideas when assessing. Assessment Portfolio and Analysis The mission is to help children/students to better themselves and be able to finish any task that they have started to the fullest. The goal is to determine where the child is at developmentally/educationally. I will learn where the child stands, what they already know and how farther they can be pushed to achieving our goal. According to the text, ââ¬Å"Assessment is the process of gathering information about children from several forms of evidence, then organizing and interpreting that informationâ⬠(Wortham, S.C. (2012). I know that it is the teacherââ¬â¢s responsibility to test the students, from that the teacher will be able to understand where each individual child stands. My plan for including assessment when working with children is to be able to carefully be assess the child and take my time. I will make accurate decisions regarding the child and will include the childââ¬â¢s parents as well for their input. One way that I can use assessment to document the childââ¬â¢s work is through portfolio. According to teacher.scholastic.com, ââ¬Å"These purposeful collections of childrens work illustrate their efforts, progress, and achievements over time. Teachers and children can compile the collections together from work completed in the classroom. As they talk together about the childs interests and progress, they develop new activities for the child to focus on.â⬠(http://teacher.scholastic.com/professional/assessment/perfassess.htm)

Housing Authority Meeting :: Journalism Essays
Housing Authority Meeting Fine charged for questionable false alarms The city of Muncie is fining the Housing Authority of Delaware County for alleged false alarms. The announcement came at the Housing Authorityââ¬â¢s monthly board meeting that they have been fined $100 for three false alarms in March and April. But the police may not have responded to these alarms. Executive Director Jennifer Edwards says the Muncie Police Department is making a claim of false alarms when the police are notified by the Housing Authorityââ¬â¢s alarm company, ADT of a disturbance great enough to set off the alarms. These could be, she says, anything from a storm rattling the windows to people with mischievous intents. ââ¬Å"But an alarm is an alarm, and they deserve the same response,â⬠Edwards said. ADT calls the police and Edwards when an alarm is activated. Edwards claims that when she arrived, police had not responded to any of the alarms the department mentioned in the list of dates the Housing Authority is being fined for. An ordinance against false alarms says that three false alarms constitute a fine of $100, and more for each alarm afterwards. Amendments were made to this ordinance earlier this year to lessen fines for large buildings, such as those on Ball Stateââ¬â¢s campus, but are costly to the smaller, federal funded Housing Authority. ââ¬Å"I vote we fight this,â⬠said Commissioner Evan Terry. ââ¬Å"I remember back in 1982 to 1986 when [false fire alarms were happening frequently] at Ball State. Thatââ¬â¢s what this ordinance is supposed to protect. False fire alarms,â⬠Terry said. Commissioner Fred Fields said that if the police are going to charge the Housing Authority for protective services, they should at least show up. The board agreed to consult their attorney, Casey Cloyd on the matter, and take legal action if needed. Board members noted that this is a case of the city of Muncie fining a federal office in Delaware county jurisdiction, so they may not possess the ability to fine the organization. Brand Development
Question: Analyze ESPN according to the brand development strategies from the text. What have they done in the past? What would you recommend to ESPN for future brand development? Discussion: Brand development in the past has consisted of creating new and exciting ways to bring the latest sporting events. A company has four choices when it comes to developing brands. It can introduce line extensions, brand extensions, multi brands, or new brands.Line extensions occur when a company extends existing brand names to new forms, colors, sizes, ingredients, or flavors of an existing product category. A company might introduce line extensions as a low-cost, low-risk way to introduce new products. Or it might want to meet consumer desires for variety, use excess capacity, or simply command more shelf space from resellers. However, line extensions involve some risks. An overextended brand name might lose some of its specific meaning.Or heavily extended brands can cause consumer confusion or f rustration. A brand extension extends a current brand name to new or modified products in a new category. A brand extension gives a new product instant recognition and faster acceptance. It also saves the high advertising costs usually required to build a new brand name. At the same time, a brand extension strategy involves some risk. Now for ESPN. ESPN loves its name. It puts it name on everything. ESPN The Magazine. ESPN2. ESPN News. The ESPN Zone.To a degree it is fine, as long as it stays within the bounds of extending ESPN's core value: getting sports into every ounce of your life. ESPN The Magazine is the only one that isn't worhty of the ESPN headliner. They should have named it something else. It's not up to the minute, so it isn't consistent with everything else ESPN promotes. Anyways, ESPN Mobile fits the bill. Every sports fan has been stranded to some degree without being able to access sports info they needed to have. And die hard sports fans NEED their info. The concept of the insane amount of sports data being pumped over that network is mind blowing. What is also mind blowing is that for what it is, its restrictive. Today, I don't see the ESPN phone in a family plan or the Mobile ESPN service being offered through standard phone outlets. If Dad or Junior could get a Samsung on Verizon's network featuring Mobile ESPN? Done and done. And with the move to converged handsets, I see the market for Mobile ESPN as single guys with 40 hour-per-week blue collar jobs who like to watch football at the bar.If that's the segment they are targeting, good for them. Love the concept, just wish it fit my profile a little better. The middle class loves the family plans because they don't have to spend twice as much to get the core function of a phone: the phone. For the small service business: stay focused on what makes your name valuable. If you absolutely need to get into a new business opportunity. Sleep on it. If you still must get in, you need a new name for that new business!!!! Nothing dilutes a brand like the jack of all trades.

Department of Justice Essay
There seems to be major issue in the case of United States v. Viktor Kozenzy. The specific legal question is whether Viktor Kozenzy, Frederic Bourke, Jr, and David Pinkerton had conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the Travel Act. There are many facts that support this claim. Viktor Kozenzy, Federic Bourke Jr. and David Pinkerton paid and also caused to be paid bribes to Azeri Officials. They all became shareholders of Oily Rock. Oily Rock invested in Azeri privatization vouchers. They also became part of Minaret as well. Mineret was a party to the co-investment agreement between Oily Rock and the co-investors. There seems to be lots of more facts in this case. The defendants made many corrupt payments, promises, and offers to Senior officials of the Government of Azerbaijan. They all seemed to have conspiracy to bribe and there are evidence of wire transfers and direct cash payments. They also promised two-thirds of the profits of Oily-Rock and receive two-thirds of Oily Rock vouchers. There are was also much jewelry exchanged in excess of $600,000 to Azeri officials. The source of my facts came from Justice.gov, it is the official United States Department of Justiceââ¬â¢s website. It is very credible and accurate. There seems to be relevant laws and regulations such as Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and Travel Act. The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act made it unlawful to bribe officials. It was passed in 1977. I believe that the court reached the decision by the substantial evidence. There were documented evidence that shows the money laundering, stock options, and wire transfer to foreign officials. I think that the court was correct that the defendant did indeed conspire to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the Travel Act. This situation could be easily avoided if the government officials had personal watching over them or checking the bank accounts. Many of the officials should be watched closely after and monitored. Elton Mayos Human Relations School Essays
Elton Mayos Human Relations School Essays Elton Mayos Human Relations School Paper Elton Mayos Human Relations School Paper Non- financial incentives are non-financially related schemes that TK Maxx uses to supplement pay of their employees, and to keep them working for them and not other firms. TK Maxx is aware that pay is not the only factor at work in motivating their recruits, so they invest more money into the employee benefits. These include things like social interaction and praise.à These non-financial incentives can help associates of TK Maxx to achieve their higher needs not of a financial quality, including social and self esteem. Elton Mayos Human Relations Schoolà Taylors ideas were introduced and sometimes they worked and failed. As a result, people thought there must be more to motivation than just money.à Mayo thought that workers are motivated whenever a manager takes a personal interest in them, and in the workers perspective, this admiration is perceived as a complement to them. For example in involving them in the decision making process. Social Factorsà For instance, when it came to the planning of the Christmas party, the manager involved all the employees by asking them where they would like the venue to be.à Elton Mayo also thought that firms need to meet the personal satisfaction of their workers; firms need to recognise that employees have personal goals, as well as company goals they want to attain. Therefore, firms should encourage teams of employees to socialise with each other. As a result, TK Maxx organises annually Christmas parties, to enable their associates to meet personal goals such as social esteem, and enable opportunities for social interaction.à With these social factors at work, my productivity levels will be enhanced and due to a greater sense of satisfaction from the workplace. This can also bring about less boredom as the company of others can keep me happy and being involved in the firms decision making process can be rewarding. By gaining social approval from my colleagues during social interaction and a self sense of value in the firm, an associate like me can then climb up to the social esteem step of Maslows Hierarchy of Needs. However, not everyone in TK Maxx will be motivated by being included in the decisions the firm makes.à For example, when it came to planning the venue for a TK Maxx Christmas party for 2007 at a meeting, I did not want to participate because my intentions for joining the TK Maxx team was for a good pay rate and an insight into the latest fashion styles released, rather than seeking social opportunities and responsibilities This can conflict with Mayos Human Relations School concept as I refused to be involved in a TK Maxx decision making process.à Herzbergs Hygiene Factorsà As well as motivation factors being at work to enhance workers productivity levels, Herzberg believed that there were hygiene factors incorporated in the mix. What differentiated these factors from motivation factors was that, hygiene factors provided the employees with things that would keep them content in the workplace thereby will become less likely to resign and the firms annual turnover rate can be reduced eventually. These included things such as safe working conditions and adequate rest breaks. Motivation factors according to Herzberg only encourage employees to work to their maximum potential for optimum productivity, such as a promotion and more responsibility i.e. for example, being involved in the firms decision making processes. They do not focus on the employee staying with the firm, but rather the employee working industriously for the firm.à The hygiene factors supplement the motivating factors, so if the hygiene factors of TK Maxx are poor like the cleanliness of the workplace, then their motivating factors like pay would not work. However, according to Taylors Scientific Management theory, employees will only be motivated by earning money, so therefore there would not be a need for hygiene factors to be present in order for employees to be motivated in the workplace. Moreover, Taylors ideas of motivation were introduced in the early twentieth century, and so this theory may not be very relevant to the motivation needs of workers in the twenty-first century. As a result, TK Maxx is a twenty-first century business and they are up to date with what factors are required to motivate their employees. So, they go by this theory by providing hygiene factors such as rest breaks, to keep employees content as well as motivated, which together help the firm to maximise their chances of retaining them and reducing their annual turnover rate.à Rest Breaksà TK Maxx offer all their associates rest breaks for durations that correspond to their shift length. For example, half an hour rest breaks for those who work between four to six hours. These rest breaks motivate me because after a few hours of industrious working, I get exhausted and so my body needs to rest and restore energy with food and drink in order to maintain the high productivity levels. However, if I was not to receive these rest breaks, my performance levels of working will deteriorate because of physiological requirements such as food and drink. Therefore I will be de-motivated and unsatisfied because of lack of opportunity to meet these needs.à Elton Mayos Relay Assembly Test Room Studyà The study involved six women assembling telephone equipment. Women in separate rooms worked forty-eight hours a week, including weekends, without tea breaks in rooms identical to where they worked. The study began to introduce and take away rest periods, and also introduced changes to start and finish times as well as changing the hours worked. As a result, productivity levels became high and this may have been due to opportunity for social interaction during work and rest periods. These high levels were maintained even when these conditions were returned to normal. TK Maxx have adopted Elton Mayos concept of giving their associates rest breaks thereby increasing productivity levels.à As a result, I am motivated to maintain high standards of productivity levels in the workplace. In the workplace, I am able to interact with fellow colleagues whilst working and this had led to the development of informal social relationships. In order to maintain the opportunities for social interaction, I have been motivated to maintain the required high levels of productivity to satisfy TK Maxx so that I do not risk losing my job, thereby losing these opportunities for social interaction. For example, I can recall one shift staying an extra hour in work although I was given permission to go home at the end of my shift. However, the social atmosphere among me and my colleagues was so lively that I wanted to stay behind and help them out. As a result, I was under the influence of the Hawthorne effect, where a strong level of social interaction motivated employees for a consistent high level of productivity.à However, other associates in TK Maxx cannot all be motivated by social opportunities, so the motivation concept cannot apply to all employees of the firm. Therefore, TK Maxx has other means of motivating their employees.

Cyrus McCormick essays
Cyrus McCormick essays Cyrus McCormick was born in 1809 at Willow Grove, the McCormick family farm near Steeles Tavern, Va. The farm operated a sawmill, a cider mill, a distillery, two grain mills and a smokehouse. Cyrus McCormick's father, Robert, had worked on a horse-drawn reaper off and on from 1815, but was never able to get his designs to work In 1831, Robert McCormick abandoned his efforts to perfect his reaper. Working in the farm's blacksmith shop, his 22-year-old son, Cyrus, took up the challenge of the reaper. He took his father's design as a starting point and added several new features. Within six weeks, they had built a successful demonstration model of the reaper and conducted a public trial of the machine at Walnut Grove. The reaper used a reciprocating knife, much like today's sickle bar mower, to cut the grain. Metal fingers guided the stalks into the knife and a revolving reel pushed the grain into the knife for a clean cut. A master wheel which carried most of the weight of the machine rolled on the ground and drove the knife through gears and linkages. The cut grain fell onto a platform behind the knife where it was raked off into windrows or piles. A horse pulled the machine through the field. With McCormick's reaper, two people could cut as much grain in one day as four or five men with cradles, or a dozen with After the successful trial in 1831, McCormick continued to improve his design, and applied for a patent in 1834. By 1841, he was finally satisfied with his machine, and began offering the reaper for sale. Sales were slow at first; farmers had been harvesting wheat for generations with hand-tools and were skeptical of this new-fangled invention. McCormick advertised his machine with a guarantee. If the reaper was not as strong and durable as he claimed, and would not cut 15 acres a day and save one bushel of wheat per acre, the reaper could be returned for a refund. McCormick's use ...

Problems With Chainsaws Made in China
Problems With Chainsaws Made in China Inexpensive chainsaws made in China have drawn great interest in the past few years, including brands such as Blue Max, Zomax, and Showbull. It is easy to find these and other cheaply made chainsaws on various internet sites, but its typically not worth the risk of a bad-performing saw just to save a few dollars. Dont Buy Over the Internet Consumers have reported problems with chainsaws they purchased on the internet. As one buyer noted: I recently purchased a saw on the internet. I have to report that the saw is very poorly made (with) obviously poor quality control. The saw I purchased was not properly packed nor did it come with a manufacturers manual or thorough safety instructions. This consumers experience illustrates the danger of buying any chainsaw on the internet. A few tips for avoiding problems: Never buy a chainsaw without being able to see, touch and inspect it personally. If you buy a chainsaw over the internet, ensure that you receive at least a 30-day warranty.Buy chainsaws from trusted and well-reviewed companies, such asà Husqvarna, Stihl, and Echo, which are all well-made with sturdy parts. These companies have service departments in nearly every community in North America.Buy your chainsaw from a dealer. Most chainsaw dealers will not service saws sold at department stores- or those sold over the internet. So the money you save buying an inexpensive chainsaw will be lost if the saw breaks, unless you are a mechanic and can fix the chainsaw yourself. Youll be hard-pressed to find a shop that will repair these saws. Educate Yourself The problem is not so much in buying a Chinese-made chainsaw; the issue is purchasing any machine sight unseen. If you buy a Chinese chainsaw on the internet, you have no way to verify its quality, generally, are left without a warranty and have little recourse to repair the machine if it breaks. Though some of the Chinese chainsaws may carry respected brand names, they are often produced by any number of subcontracting firms.à Instead, take the time to educate yourself about the parts of a chainsaw, maintenance requirements, what youll be using the chainsaw for and even your level of expertise. If youre a beginner, for example, youll want to look for specific requirements for your first chainsaw. Chainsaw Journal suggests you examine such issues as kickback, bar length, and safety features. You cant carefully review any of these things if you buy your chainsaw over the internet from a company with which you are unfamiliar. Take It for a Test Drive Chainsaw manufacturers are using newer and lighter materials to build more powerful but durable machines. One of the most important questions to ask yourself when buying the saw is: How does it feel? If the chainsaw is too bulky, it will be harder to use. Some of the best chainsaws are small and light. Here are a few tips: Look for aà non-kickback attachmentà to ensure your safety.Examine the chainsaw parts.Try out both gas- and electric-powered saws.à The main thing is to examine the saw yourself before buying. Thats something you cant do over the internet. Put on some work gloves, visit a few dealers and spend an hour or two trying out chainsaws. Thats the best way to ensure you buy a quality chainsaw that will last years.
